Details about Opening Phuket for Vaccinated Tourists (0+7 Model)

Since a While, there were plans and Proposals for Opening Up The resort Island “Phuket” For Vaccinated Tourists. The island is one of the most Visited Tourist Destinations in Thailand and Generates a remarkable part of the Tourism income For the Country.

There were Discussions about Area Quarantine Project, Sandbox and other Proposals as well all aiming to revive the Tourism in Phuket and Other Major Touristic Destinations as well. And Finally, The Last Proposal was called the 0+7 Model.

Phuket Reopens to Vaccinated

What is the 0+7 Model and when is it Going to be implemented?

The 0+7 Model was Proposed and pushed by Mr. Yuthasak Supasorn, The Governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT). The Proposal is about allowing Vaccinated Tourists (Fully Vaccinated with the 2 Doses) to enter Phuket without the Need of Spending the Current Required Quarantine, But there will be Some restrictions applied to That.

First of All, in the First Seven Days after Arrival, The Vaccinated tourists will have to Stay in a Limited Area (Also Mentioned as Sealed Area). Then after these 7 days, They will be allowed to move freely around the Island.

It was not determined yet what this Sealed Area (Limited Area) will be Like. Maybe a Resort, a Suburb or Even a full District such as Karon for Example or Mai Khao District, this part is Not yet Clarified. It was not also mentioned whether the Hotels where the Vaccinated Tourists will stay in their first 7 Days have to be ALSQ Hotels (Alternative Local State Quarantine) or any Hotel.

Another Point that was Not also Clarified is whether this Proposal will allow vaccinated Tourists from all the Countries around the world, or only the ones coming from The Low Risk Countries. Or whether this will be applied for all types of Vaccines or only some.

Phuket to reopen for Vaccinated Tourists

When is it Going to be applied and What’s Next?

The Proposal was already approved by the CESA (The Centre for Economic Situation Administration), and the Plan is to implement it starting from the 1st of April as a Trial for the Full Reopening of the Island (For the Vaccinated tourists) On the 1st of July.

If the Plan Goes well and Safe, The Same model may be applied to Other Touristic Destinations as well such as Pattaya, Krabi and Chiang Mai.

On the 1st of July, It is planned to allow Vaccinated tourists to travel to Phuket without the need of Staying in Quarantine at All. However, To Apply this, at least 70% of the Island residents have to be already Vaccinated, Which represents around 925,000 Doses of Vaccine needed to make it happen.
